What Medical Diagnostic Career Would I Go Into?

I want to be a diagnostician like Dr. House (minus the cruel, heartless way of treating patients). I want to be a diagnostician, and I understand the he is the Head of Diagnostic Medicine or something like that. What classes would I take, where could I find more information about it, what is the specific career called, and what would a good medical specialty be for it?

I am getting ready to enter my senior year in high school, and after I graduate, I am interested in going to school to become a sonographer; specifically, an Obstretic Gynecological (OB/GYN) Sonographer. How much schooling is needed to persue a career in this field?? And where can I get this schooling from? ..Do I need to go to a college, or are there technical/vocational schools that are an alternative?
