My best friend is in a serious relationship with a guy and will probably be getting married soon..she has only had few boyfriends but only got sexually intimate with one..she has told me that she had several types of sex with this guy except anal and intercourse.. but there was contact and oral involved.. however, she is a virgin and she is doing some exams and they sent her to do a ultrasound because they cannot perform a pap scan on a virgin…im worried that she might have gotten some type of std from this guy because i know that there are stds that can be passed through oral sex and even just skin to skin contact..my question is for those who have a little more experience..does an ultrasound reveal this type of thing??
please no stupid comments..perhaps we’re overreacting but both of us would like to know if there are any possible risks..and if there are would these risks be shown in the ultrasound?
STD’s like genital warts (HPV) ,herpes (HSV) or HIV could not be detected through an ultrasound. The only thing I can think of is something like pelvic inflammatory disease because it could possibly detect the inflammation/swelling.
Anything involving mouth to genital contact or genital to genital contact (doesn’t have to be intercourse) could transmit HPV and HSV. She needs to have the specific tests for each if she is concerned.
Also it is entirely incorrect about not being able to perform a pap smear on a virgin. Doctors are capable of using a smaller instrument to examine women that have never been sexually active.
a pap test is not a scan
and a virgin can have a pap test
If she is under the care of a doctor, I’m sure that she has been screened for STD’s
I don’t think that it would reveal an STD per say(you wouldn’t know which one without further tests), but it may reveal damage or scar tissue if she has had an STD.
