Yes, after age 16-18 you are supposed to go once a year, even if you don’t have sex. It’s because they can detect cervical cancer (you can get it without being sexually active!).
It’s not just to screen for cancer but to look for any abnormalities and they will do a breast exam to check for abnormalities as well. If you don’t do a self-breast exam each month then ask them how and let them do one. It’s not a big deal.
The annual exam with a OBGYN is also a great time to ask them anything you want. They have time to talk while looking around and you don’t even have to make eye contact when asking questions. Just stare at the ceiling and blurt it out.
