Abortion And Infertility?

I have been reading through the pregnancy posts way too much, as paranoia is starting to creep in. I am a neurotic, hypochondriac worrywart, so please don’t mind me if my question comes across as frivolous or silly.
I have had three abortions, all done in the first trimester. Spare me the baby killer comments; I was young and was in no condition to have a child.
The procedures were done between 2003 and 2006. The doctor, a very reputable and efficient abortionist, who performed them (I had the same doctor for all three) said my abortions went very smoothly. I was given antibiotics and healed nicely.
I have since gone for gynecological exams and all of my PAPs have come out clean and my doctor says I am healthy down there.
What are the chances of the abortions damaging my fertility in this situation? I am on a really good brand of the Pill which works well with my body.
But… I can’t help wonder what if I’m infertile now because of the abortions?
I am not currently trying for a baby; it would just be reassuring to know that I still can conceive in the future.
SERIOUS INQUIRES ONLY PLEASE! And no pro-lifers please. Pro-facts, please :)

You’re fine. If there had any major issue that cause infertility you would know about it (like infections).
The other issues would be damage to the cervix (which your doctor would’ve seen with routine paps). And possible blocked tubes which are very very uncommon, and almost always fixable.

Yes abortions can cause scarring of the uterine tissue that can hinder the egg from implanting properly in the uterus. I am not “pro-life”, that is merely a fact. Look it up. You will see it not just on pro-life sites but medical resources. It doesn’t mean you’ll be infertile, it just means you might have a much harder time getting pregnant.

I am pro life! But I also am not going to shove it down your throat. You did what you thought was best for you at that point.
as far as fertility after abortion. I do have a friend who had an abortion when she was younger.. But now has 3 healthy children. She did have 2 miscarriages although I am not sure if those had anything to do with the previous abortion.
I am sorry for your losses so far. And I do hope that when you are ready to be a mom that you can do that.

Jesus christ! An abortion isn’t a form of birth control. I don’t care if you were young that’s no excuse. I was 15 when I had my baby. I hate people like you who abuse it. I can’t get pregnant, and people like you just throw it away! I hope you are infertile now. It’s what you deserve!

No, unless the doctor committed malpractice you are perfectly fine. Infertility due to abortions is nothing more than a pro-life scare tactic.

Abortions dont’ make women infertile anymore. That was back in the day when they were not as safe. You should be just fine honey.

Having an abortion will not prevent you from having a healthy pregnancy when you are ready. This is quoted from the National Abortion Federation website. Go there it tells you what can cause problems afterwards. It depends on the problems during and after the abortions. I am also sorry bout the rude comments. I am not a fan of abortions just because we have been ttc for 11 months now. But, You are in our boat now you want a baby and have worries and questions just like us. They should not judge you on your past. Baby Dust to you. Ur in my prayers.

I happen to be pro life, but do not judge others who are not. Who are we to judge? Like you said, none of us know the circumstances. I think it’s great that you are being responsible now and taking birth control. I have been TTC for almost 4 years and would NEVER wish upon anyone being infertile. I do wish you the best of luck in the future when you do decide that you would like to be a mother. I also have a sister in law that had 2 abortins, and went on to have a perfectly healthy baby 5 months ago. I hope that makes you feel better.
And I believe that people who may not agree with a peson’s views and actions should not answer their posts. What gives you people the right to judge another human being? You all must be perfect.

I dont know if you can or I dont care really, I JUST HOPE that you never get the pleasure of holding a precious baby in your arms because you dont deserve it. EXCUSES EXCUSES you were young and selfish and I HOPE karma works your way and gives you nothing. YOU KILLED LIFE WITH BEATING HEARTS AND NOW YOUR WORRIED? PUULEESSS.. YOU MAKE ME SICK IGNORANT SELFISH THING…HA HA HA if your doctor told you it was ok then why waste your time asking here, right on thing

    I hope you are infertile.
You’re obviously to stupid to use birth control.

Even so called “safe” abortions can kill the mother as well as baby. It is possible that the doctor lied to you to get your money and your “services” and botched the abortion. Ohio Right to Life quotes an unidentified article in the British Journal of OB/GYN for 1976-AUG which stated that the risk of secondary infertility among women with at least one induced abortion is 3-4 times greater than that among non-aborted women. However, in rare cases, multiple dilations and curettages (the cleaning out of the uterus, also known as a D&C) can cause some scarring at the top of the cervix or inside the uterus. A procedure called hysteroscopy (when a small camera is placed through your cervix into your uterine cavity) can be used to check for this problem and can usually repair the scar tissue at the same time.
But even if that’s not the case for you, you should know that any procedure that dilates the cervix (a necessary step during most abortions) can weaken it. So if you’ve had more than one abortion and you get pregnant again later on, you may find that you have what’s known as an incompetent cervix — a cervix that starts dilating prematurely. This can sometimes be treated with a stitch to keep the cervix closed, called a cerclage. A scientific review article in the International Journal of Fertility and Menopausal Studies concluded that legal induced abortions have almost no chance of infertility when done in the first or second trimester.
